NEW DELHI: A political slugfest broke out between TMC and BJP on Friday over feedback made by actor Amitabh Bachchan and a track by Arijit Singh at Kolkata International Film Festival.

It began with Bachchan’s feedback on freedom of expression and reached a crescendo when Arijit sang ‘Rang de tu mohe gerua (color me saffron)’, which many linked to the continuing controversy over a saffron costume worn by Deepika Padukone in ‘Pathaan’. That this got here after West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee requested him to sing added to the talk. “Bachchan’s phrases could not have been extra prophetic since they have been spoken in Kolkata, with Mamata Banerjee on the dais. It is like holding a mirror to the tyrant,” stated BJP IT cell head Amit Malviya. Actor and TMC MP Nusrat Jahan was fast to reply.

“Signs of tyrannical rule embrace banning motion pictures, detaining journalists, and punishing frequent folks for talking the reality,” she tweeted. Nusrat alleged that BJP was “capping” freedoms “whereas Malviya is busy accusing others”.
