Sony Group Corp is contemplating an funding of about 800 billion yen ($5.83 billion) to construct a manufacturing unit to make smartphone picture sensors in western Japan, the Nikkan Kogyo newspaper stated on Friday.

The plant can be situated in Kumamoto prefecture and Sony plans to deliver it on-line in 2025 on the earliest, the report stated. The information was first reported by the Nikkei enterprise each day, though it did not point out a selected funding quantity.

The Nikkei stated the Japanese electronics and leisure conglomerate would rigorously take into account the timing of the development and the dimensions of the funding given considerations a few slowdown within the world economic system.
